Our Munich April 2002

  With Stetson & Boots

It began 6 years ago, Richard Lootens, belgian and "Münchner" by heart, was so
enthousiastic about american linedance that he wanted to establish a group
especially for gays in Munich as well. Today the Munich LAD's are more than just
established they are a national, almost international known troupe.
The "chief" of the Munich LAD's is proud, that the little bunch of men that
was keen on dancing became a group of 40 members (with 4 women among them), that
knows more than 120 dances and performs on many german streetfestivals and gay
prides as well as abroad with great success. Their goal for the next years is to
get the big dance-competition of the international association of gay & lesbian
country & western dance clubs to Munich.
Ralf (active member since two years*) says, he enjoys to casually meet new people.
"Dancing really links people. In comparison with standard-dance there is no
difference between gender and there is pleasure in the movement. I really don't
           need a gym."
Gisela, who comes with her husband from time to time, enjoys beside dancing the
feeling to be in one big family, where it doesn't matter "whether you're gay or
           heterosexual or whatever"*
*The LAD's meet every 1st & 3rd Friday of each month in the "Café
Regenbogen" of the Munich AIDS-helpline (Lindwurmstraße 71) at 20h.
Beginners are always welcome, there are always new dances taught.
           * On 18.4. the LAD's have their anniversary in the "Zunfthaus" in
           Thalkirchner Straße 76 with a Country-Dance Party (admission 7Euro)
