Living Line Dance 2/2010
It’s known that line dancers have a big heart. But the first Munich Benefit Line Dance Marathon was a novelty. A whole week all the dancers of the 9 participating clubs were visiting each other and they also had there “Benefit-Piggy-Bank” with them. At least they collected 4321€ for the “Kindertafel Glockenbach e.V.. It was organized by Evi Retzer from the Good Time Fellows and Katinka Knoll from the Munich Linedancers. Evi has written down her impressions for Living Line Dance. Munich Benefit Line Dance Marathon - a big success Also in Munich are kids for whom it isn’t natural to get a warm lunch at the school. The line dancers liked to help those kids and the idea was born for the Benefit Marathon. Nice side-effect: the clubs get closer, to make old friendships more intensiv and new friendships can be found. The start was at the Lucky Ones at the community hall of St. Benedikt. So much dancers came like never seen before and the donations were fantas- tic. A few days later a lot of them met in Untermeitingen again, together with a lot of new dancers. The “Four Corners” was good visited and as a highlight the Desert Devil Dancers organized an american auction with a guitar from the american country singer and song writer Phil Vassar, signed by him. The money from the auction also came into the piggy-bank. On Monday the event was going on at the Good Time Fellows-location “Gasthaus Bock” were it became quite cuddly on the dancefloor. Small steps were in need. On Tuesday the event was brought to the Munich Line- dancers at the “Berg am Laimer Sportwirt”. There was also a fantastic party for the kids benefit. On Wednesday there were two events: the Crazy Legs welcomed their visitors at the “Rattlesnake Saloon” and The Flying Eagles were dancing with their guests at the “Bräustüberl Maisach”. There the Holledauer Linedancer gave an envelope with their collected donations. They had organized a spontaneous collection on one of her club evenings. On Thursday we were visiting the Munich LAD’s and on Friday we danced at the community hall of St. Franziskus together with Get In Line. Some could only join one evening, others were visiting all the events. For the closing-party the householder of the SV Schwarz Weiß (SC Black White) in Berg am Laim had some special in mind: a kids soccer-tournament. The piggy-bank was also at this event and was filled by parents and soccer-fans. The evening event was presented by the radio presentor Ali Khan who offered as a highlight a fashion show of a school class too. Later we said Thank You to all the clubs who helped us with the marathon. Ali Khan honored the participants who had joined most of the events and we handed out the cheque with the fantastic amount of 4321€ to the Kindertafel Glockenbach e.V.. This week has shown that the Munich Linedancers and their friends from surround Munich are having a big heart. It also shows that big things can be done if many clubs, non-profit organizations and single persons working together. We are proud of you! THANK YOU! Evi Retzer
